Mike Surprenant, SE: Principal

Mike Surprenant is a Licensed Structural and Civil Engineer in the State of California. A native San Diegan, Mike has spent his entire working life in the building industry. His roots in the San Diego building community began early while working as a carpenter for various rough-framing and concrete contractors. Through this experience, Mike developed an extensive knowledge of wood-frame construction while working on several residential and commercial projects. More importantly, he became familiar with the "common practices" of several construction trades, which now aid in providing sensible, "cost-efficient", structural designs as well as quick, practical solutions to field challenges encountered during the construction phase of projects. Mike graduated from San Diego State University in 1990 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, Mike began working for a firm specializing in the design of building structures. In 1996, he launched his own structural consulting firm now known as Mike Surprenant & Associates.

Taylor Case, PE: Project Engineer

Taylor Case graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2012 with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. Immediately following, he joined the San Diego building industry working for an architectural firm in La Jolla, California. During this time, Taylor became very familiar with the architectural process while tasked with producing consistent construction documents, coordinating with consultants and building officials, and assisting with construction administration services. Taylor joined Mike Surprenant & Associates in 2013 where he now develops structural designs for a variety of residential and commercial projects. Born and raised in San Diego, Taylor also enjoys playing the guitar, freehand sketching and coaching soccer.

Jorge Zesati, PE: Project Engineer

Jorge Zesati graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 2016 with a B.S. in Structural Engineering. Jorge began his career with Mike Surprenant following graduation where he continues his education and is constantly learning from the experience of everyone at the firm. Jorge helps develop structural designs for many different residential and commercial projects. Outside the office, Jorge enjoys camping, off-roading and playing the occasional video game with friends.

Clay Thompson, Senior Drafter

Clay Thompson has preparing plans and construction document for 23+ years. He has been with Mike Surprenant & Associates since 2000. In the years before joining Mike Surprenant & Associates, he has worked for an architectural firm in Rancho Santa Fe and design/build construction companies in both the San Diego are and in Northern California. This architectural background has helped in finding structural solutions that maintain the artistic vision of our clients. His construction background has aided in the design of solutions that are both affordable and ease the construction process.
