 BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE   

Mike Surprenant, a native San Diegan, has spent his entire working life in the building industry.  His roots in the San Diego building community began early by working as a carpenter for various concrete and rough-framing contractors.  Through this experience, Mike developed an extensive knowledge of wood-frame construction while working on several residential and commercial projects.  This experience also gave him the opportunity to become familiar with the “common practices” of several construction trades, which presently aid in providing sensible “cost-efficient” structural designs, as well as quick, practical solutions to field challenges encountered during the construction phase of projects.

While working in the construction industry, Mike attended San Diego State University and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  Upon graduation, Mike began working for a firm specializing in the design of building structures.  In 1996, he launched his own structural consulting firm now known as Mike Surprenant & Associates.  Since that time, he has served as the Principal Structural Engineer and performed a variety of structural engineering services for several projects throughout the San Diego Community and surrounding region.  Mike is a licensed structural engineer in the State of California.
